Not an earth-shattering profound remedy but one nonetheless that does not involve chemicals or pharmaceuticals.
I like to tell everything the long way so here goes. Two brothers ended up with Type 1 juvenile onset diabetes, one at age 16 and the other one at age 22. The condition was not preceeded by hypoglycemia or typical type 2 symptoms. All of a sudden no pancreas function. About 10 to 12 years later, both brothers who are now seeing different doctors, have been prescribed the high blood pressure medication, Altace, a beta-blocker that reduces the heart rate and the heart's output of blood - now get this - as a preventative for kidney failure even though neither of the brothers had any kidney damage nor high blood pressure!!!!
Apperantly, the thinking is if the blood pressure is reduced and the blood circulation is slowed down, there is not as much blood filtering through the kidneys and the less work the kidneys have to do, therefore less chance of damage.
Our thinking was "so what happens to the toxins? I guess they just stay in your body longer". Eeew, yucky!
Now 13 years later, one brother who was severely addicted to coffee, a natural diuretic quits coffee to kick the caffeine habit. His feet and ankles start swelling up like marshmallows. Edema is a common problem in diabetics. Fearing his kidneys have been damaged, research ensues.
His answer? Juniper berries, either eaten whole (dried) or taken as a liquid extract AND dandelion root (dried, ground and in capsules). When he quit taking the juniper, the edema returned. The combination of juniper and dandelion is apperently a synergystic combination for him and it also turns out that dandelion is a kidney stregthener, not just a diuretic. He has been eating raw dandelion leaves as well which are high in potassium. Potassium by itself also works as a diuretic which he is also taking a small amount of. He was told that potassium could possibly take care of the edema on its own but he chose to route of the herbs as a kidney tonic.
All within the same 30-45 days, he started with a new endocrinoligist specifically for diabetes care. He had the routine lab work done they always do for diabetics. It came back with flying colors on the kidney tests. No protein (microalbumin) in the urine, a symptom of kidney damage and below average levels of creatinine in urine. High creatinine is another symptom of kidney damage.
Woo Hoo!!
Don't want to take those nasty Rx drugs?? The first step is to start to LOOK for a natural answer. There are alot of knowledgeable people and good resources all around you. Some Rx drugs are unavoidable like insulin for a type 1 diabetic but even then, there are natural methods that will allow a person to reduce usage. Finding the right remedy can be a slow process but don't give up searching. The answer is probably in your backyard. Literally. |
